Community Outreach
The Campus IRB is responsible for enhancing the education of research participants and the community about the IRB process and must assure that researchers employ a procedure that provides a venue for participants to ask questions and voice concerns or complaints. The Campus IRB will educate the research community and participants by providing a public venue for educational tools regarding the human subject research and IRB process, and a process for participants to ask questions, voice concerns or complaints to the investigator. The Campus IRB reviews and approves research involving human subjects and makes sure the research follows the federal regulations that govern human subject research. The goal of the Campus IRB is to protect the rights, welfare and safety of research subjects who volunteer to participate in a research project.
Research ParticipantsAre you considering being in a research study or do you have any questions about a research study? The Campus IRB welcomes your questions. Please feel free to contact our office. YOUR RIGHTS AS A RESEARCH PARTICIPANT: The research participant has the right to know about the research that they are being asked to participate in. The Institutional Review Board ("IRB") is a committee organized by the institution to oversee the research activities that subjects participate in. Researchers are required to follow the rules of the IRB in order to conduct research. HOW DO I GIVE PERMISSION TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH? The researcher will ask for your permission and provide you information about what you are being asked to do, and what you will be doing. They will give you information about the benefits or risks of participating in the research so that you can decide whether you want to be involved. The document you sign is the "Informed Consent Document." That document must be approved by an IRB before you can sign it. A "Sample" Informed Consent Document is provided below.
If you have questions about the Informed Consent process, or document, and you do not wish to contact the researcher - you may contact the Campus IRB at (573) 882-9585. Please leave your name and a telephone number where we can reach you. ComplaintsThe Campus Institutional Review Board provides a mechanism to investigate a complaint made regarding any human subject research activity, investigator, or IRB processes and initiates the process no later than 5 business days, in an effort to assure the safety and welfare of research participants. Research subjects are encouraged to complete the "Complaint, Concerns or Comment" form to communicate their concerns to the Campus IRB.
